In March 2008, while traveling from Rawalpindi to Muzaffarabad with her family, armed robbers attacked and fired at Dr. Najam’s car. A stray bullet penetrated her neck and led to a severe spinal cord injury resulting in quadriplegia and paralysis below her neck. Despite this devastating injury, she restarted her studies and became a doctor and then completed her postgraduate studies in Pakistan and England to become a brilliant psychiatrist.
Dr. Najam is also a poet and an advocate, inspiration and a role model for people with disabilities and the SCIPPER team.
